Known Battles
No battle is recorded in the chronicles of the Dance — Meraxes never met another dragon in the sky.
Lore
Meraxes was the silver she-dragon of Queen Rhaenys Targaryen, Aegon the Conqueror's sister-wife, and one of the three great beasts that crossed the Narrow Sea with the last dragonlords of Valyria. Golden-eyed and scale-bright, she carried Rhaenys through the Conquest and the burning of Harrenhal alongside Balerion and Vhagar.
In 10 AC, during the subjugation of Dorne, Rhaenys flew Meraxes against the Hellholt. As the dragon wheeled above the castle, a scorpion's bolt pierced her eye. Dragon and rider came down out of the sky together, and Meraxes' death-throes destroyed much of the keep beneath her. Whether Queen Rhaenys was killed by the fall or buried in the rubble, no man could say — her body was never found.
Her death broke something in Aegon the Conqueror. For a year the realm burned as dragonflame ravaged Dorne in answer, yet the Dornish would not be subdued, and Dorne remained beyond the reach of the Iron Throne for nearly two hundred years, joining the Seven Kingdoms only through the marriage pact of Daeron II.
