Lore
Caraxes was a blood-red dragon, long and lean and serpentine of neck, with a temper to match his colour — the singers called him the Blood Wyrm. He was the mount of Prince Daemon Targaryen from the Rogue Prince's youth, and the two were as alike as rider and beast could be: quick to wrath, fond of battle, and impossible to put down.
Daemon rode Caraxes through the wars in the Stepstones, where he made himself king, and again in 130 AC when he took Harrenhal almost without a stroke and used it as the base for Queen Rhaenyra's march on the capital. Wherever Caraxes' shadow fell, garrisons opened their gates; the Blood Wyrm's reputation alone was worth a host.
At the God's Eye in 130 AC, Daemon met Aemond One-Eye, riding Vhagar — the largest dragon alive against one of the fiercest. The two circled the lake until, at the last, Daemon leapt from Caraxes' saddle onto Vhagar's neck with the Valyrian steel spear Dark Sister. Both dragons fell locked together into the water, and neither rose; the Dance would never see their like again.
