Lore
Younger brother of King Viserys I, Daemon Targaryen was always more dangerous to his own family than to their enemies. He served as Master of Coin and Master of Laws, and won the devotion of the City Watch as its commander, turning the gold cloaks into a sword at his own back. Greedy for crowns of his own, he warred on the Triarchy in the Stepstones and let himself be crowned there — a title no one in Westeros recognised and no one forgot.
Exiled, reconciled, bereaved and remarried — first to Laena Velaryon, and after her death in 120 AC to Rhaenyra herself, in a secret Valyrian wedding on Dragonstone. When the Dance began he took Harrenhal and then King's Landing itself, and commanded the agents who killed the young prince Jaehaerys in the royal bedchamber — Blood and Cheese — an atrocity that cost the Blacks the love of the city.
His war ended above the Gods Eye in 130 AC. Riding Caraxes, he met Aemond One-Eye and Vhagar in a duel that brought all four of them down into the lake. Both riders were lost, and the singers found it fitting: Daemon had spent his life refusing to stay where he was put, and would not stay in a grave anyone could find.
