Known Battles
No battle is recorded in the chronicles of the Dance — Sheepstealer never met another dragon in the sky.
Lore
Sheepstealer was one of the three wild dragons of Dragonstone — the Cannibal, the Grey Ghost and herself — a muddy brown she-dragon old enough to have hunted the island's flocks for decades. She took her name from her habit: sheep simply disappeared from the Dragonmont's shepherds, and no man ever saw her catch them.
In the Sowing of 129 AC, when every knight and bastard who tried was burned or driven off, it was a baseborn girl called Nettles who won her — by the oldest trick in the world, bringing the dragon a sheep every day until she could scratch behind her jaws. Nettles rode Sheepstealer for Queen Rhaenyra, and the two of them hunted and flew together like old friends.
After the fall of King's Landing, Queen Rhaenyra — mad with grief and suspicion — declared Nettles a witch and ordered her executed. Daemon Targaryen, who had come to love the girl, warned her instead, and Nettles flew Sheepstealer out of Dragonstone in the night. They vanished into the Mountains of the Moon, and neither dragon nor rider was ever seen again; some maesters think they died there, and some folk in the hills still tell of them.
