Lore
Syrax was the yellow-scaled she-dragon of Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen, bonded to the princess in childhood and raised in the dragon yards of Dragonstone. She was a large and willful beast, but a court dragon: pampered, half-tame and untested by war, with no battle to her name when the succession was contested in 129 AC.
When the realm divided after the death of King Viserys I, Syrax carried Rhaenyra's cause as surely as any sword. The queen's dragon was at her side through the fall of King's Landing and the taking of the Iron Throne, and Syrax's presence over the capital was the surest sign that the Blacks held the city.
In 130 AC the Shepherd's rabble stormed the Dragonpit to slay the dragons caged there. Prince Joffrey, frantic for his own chained dragon Tyraxes, loosed Syrax from the yard and flew her down into the mob — and the queen's dragon, this one battle-dragon at last, fought and slew men in scores before she was hacked, speared and arrowed to death beneath the burning dome. Rhaenyra never rode a dragon again.
