Lore
Vermithor, the Bronze Fury, was a bronze-and-tan dragon of Dragonstone who was claimed by the young Jaehaeraerys Targaryen and became the king's mount for the half-century of his peaceful reign. When Jaehaeraerys died in 103 AC the old dragon passed to no new master; for twenty-six years he brooded riderless in the Dragonmont, growing vast and restless.
During the Sowing of the Dragonseed in 129 AC, of all the bastards and baseborn who came to Dragonstone seeking a dragon, it was the blacksmith Hugh Hammer whom Vermithor chose — a huge, raw-boned man said to have Targaryen blood in him. With Vermithor and Silverwing claimed, Queen Rhaenyra's cause suddenly had the two largest dragons in the world.
In 130 AC came the Treason at Tumbleton: Hugh and Ulf turned their dragons on the very town they had been sent to defend, burning Black and Green alike — the Two Betrayers. After Hugh was murdered by the Caltrops, the riderless Vermithor went mad with rage, slew two score knights who dared attack him, and at the Second Battle of Tumbleton fought Seasmoke and Tessarion in the last great dragon-brawl of the war. He killed Seasmoke, then collapsed and died of his wounds.
