Lore

The eldest son of Viserys I and Alicent Hightower, Aegon had no great appetite for the throne and less for the study his father wished on him. He preferred fighting pits and falconry, and grew into a sullen, arrogant boy β€” yet the night his father died, his mother's family told him plainly that a crowned Rhaenyra would one day have him killed, and set the crown on his head.

The Greens won their early victories: Lucerys slain over Shipbreaker Bay, the Blacks driven from the capital's affections. At Rook's Rest in 130 AC, Aegon flew Sunfyre into an ambush alongside Aemond and Rhaenys, and came out of it broken β€” a crippled king hidden away while his brother ruled as prince regent. When King's Landing fell to Rhaenyra he was carried off, and the city passed through its Moon of the Three Kings before he could return to it.

He reclaimed his capital only to find it hollow, and had his sister delivered to him when she fled to Dragonstone β€” feeding her to Sunfyre before her own son. But the cruelty spent the last of his support: as the northern and river lords closed on the city, his own court poisoned him in 131 AC to buy peace. The war ended with both rival monarchs dead.
