Lore

Elder of the twins born to Prince Daemon and Lady Laena Velaryon, Baela was raised between Driftmark and Dragonstone, half a daughter to her grandmother Rhaenys. Fierce, restless and her father's child in temperament, she was betrothed to Rhaenyra's eldest son, Jacaerys Velaryon — a match that made her part of the war's grieving generation when he fell in the Battle of the Gullet.

When Dragonstone fell to Aegon II she did not wait to be taken. She flew Moondancer against the wounded Sunfyre in single combat above the island. The golden dragon was half-ruined but still the larger beast: Moondancer was killed, Baela was brought down and taken captive, and her attack left Sunfyre so battered that it never flew again.

Baela survived her captivity and outlived the war. Of Daemon's blood on both sides, she remained one of the most formidable women of the new court — a princess who had looked a dragon in the eye and refused to turn away.
