Younger twin of Baela and daughter of Daemon Targaryen and Laena Velaryon, Rhaena was the soft-spoken half of a famously headstrong pair. Where her sister chased dragons, Rhaena tended the egg she had been given and hoped it would hatch — and when it did not, she was the princess who watched the sky rather than the one who entered it.
She lost her mother in 120 AC and was betrothed to Lucerys Velaryon, Rhaenyra's second son; he was killed over Shipbreaker Bay in the war's first murder, and she was left a widow before she was a bride. Sent to the Vale of Arryn with one of the court's last dragon eggs, she watched the Dance burn through the dragonpit and the old Valyrian bloodline together.
Rhaena Targaryen lived to see the peace that followed and to see the dragons end. Of all Daemon's children she inherited his survival rather than his recklessness — the twin who stayed alive when staying alive was the hardest thing in the realm.
